Along the eastern coast of Australia, holiday makers will find a small rural town merging with those on the outskirts, the town of Milton Australia. Noted for its rural heritage dating to the mid-nineteenth century, Milton is a listed National Trust location.

Commonly enjoyed festivals in the region take note of agricultural heritage. The Milton Agricultural and Horticultural Show resembles a county fair, featuring a dog show and a chance for farmers to show off their animals. Enjoy rural exhibitions, live music, even a rodeo. The Settlers Fair also pays tribute to agriculture as well as heritage. Come and enjoy historic displays and workshops on sheep shearing or listen to a story-teller. Both of these events welcome the whole family. At harvest time, stick around for the Scarecrow Festival. Celebrate in a similar way to the the Settlers Fair, except with many beautiful scarecrow creations on display.

A regular village market gives tourists a chance to witness the array of products for sale and bring home something original. The only catch is you have to have excellent timing as the market happens just one morning every month. Purchase clothing or crafts. Bag some ingredients to bring back to self-catering accommodation. Many artists in various media make Milton their home. Admire their paintings and pottery, displayed in galleries, stalls or shops. Look out for a masterpiece during your stay.

Another art form to explore here is the skill of making fine wine. Cupitts Winery encourages tourists to come and taste some of their products at the cellar door and purchase bottles to take away. This is also a good place to stop for lunch or dinner. A wine show also takes place in Milton. Come and taste the entries, then see which of the many south coast wineries walk away with medals. Should vegetarian fare entice you back into town, there is a restaurant serving meat-free burgers and more.

GZone Flower Farm provides a glimpse at what being totally green means. Witness their stunning displays of flowers all year while marveling at thoroughly environmentally friendly methods. They also sell food and novelties. Lovers of outdoor activities have come to the right place. Morton National Park entices ramblers into the bush while Pigeon House Mountain poses a steep challenge to hikers. A stop at Lake Conjola is sure to offer up plenty of water sports. Try water skiing, fishing, sailing or swimming in the beautiful waters.

It is also a land of many contrasts and a wide variety of climate that ranges from tropical to sub alpine. It is easy to forget that this vast island – continent has only been known to the rest of the world for just 250 years. Australia is roughly the same size as the U.S.A. (if you exclude Alaska) whilst its population is only one tenth of the U.S.A.’s

That means there’s plenty of room for both the Aussies and their visitors! It also makes the Australian continent the world’s most sparsely populated continent – with the obvious exception of Antarctica. Overall, Australia is the driest continent in the world, but the lush and fertile area that makes up its eastern seaboard provides the majority of its population with a much more hospitable place to live. Separating this fertile land from the vast, barren outback region is a mountain range named the Great Dividing Range. At its southern end you will find the Australian Alps or Snowy Mountains as the Australians call them. Both names are equally apt because these mountains receive as much snowfall as Switzerland.

Australia is a huge country, almost as large as the contiguous United States, and one of the most important tips for any traveler would be to give themselves enough time to really see the country. Most international visitors fly into Sydney, the country’s largest city, but the rest of this vast country, which also happens to be a continent, is well worth visiting too.

Credit cards, particularly Visa and MasterCard, are widely accepted. Tipping is not as common as in the US, although it’s appreciated. An inexpensive hotel room might cost somewhere between $50 and $80; a more luxurious hotel room may cost in the range of $260 to $300. Hostels and campgrounds are also widely available, reasonably priced and popular with families and backpackers.
